If you want a career in engineering this course will give you an introduction to the fundamental basics of the industry. You will develop a range of practical skills, including machining and welding, get the chance to improve your English and maths grades as part of the course*, and complete a work experience placement to bring your learning to life. Successful completion of the course will enable you to pursue an engineering apprenticeship or progress to the BTEC Level 2 extended certificate in engineering. *** Advanced Technology and Automotive Centre now open!*** You will train at the new £8.1 million purpose-built https://www.wolvcoll.ac.uk/our-college/campus-transformation/atac/Advanced Technology and Automotive Centre at the https://www.wolvcoll.ac.uk/our-college/find-us/Wellington Road campus, in Bilston, which boasts dedicated engineering workshops kitted out with industry-standard equipment including fabrication and welding suites, a specialist CAD room featuring AutoCAD and SolidWorks software, CNC milling machines, lathes, 3D printers, mechatronic t-rigs and a laser cutter.
Entry Requirements: To access this course you are required to have: English GCSE at Grade 2 or above Maths GCSE at Grade 2 or above (preferably Grade 3 or above) As part of the admissions process you will be required to attend an interview with an admissions tutor and complete an online assessment based on engineering principles.
What will I learn? During the course you will study the following units: Working in engineering You will also have a range of optional units including: Hand-fitting skills Working with lathes MIG welding TIG welding *You will also study for GCSE English and maths if you do not already have the required level of qualification.
