If you are thinking about a career in construction but are unsure about which path to choose, our Basic Construction Multi-Skills course will give you a taste of what working in the industry is like - and you don't need to have any experience, just a willingness to have a go! The qualification offers you the opportunity to gain basic skills in brickwork, carpentry, plumbing and painting, get hands-on with industry-standard tools, and learn how to do a range of tasks such as how to lay bricks, fix a skirting board, hang an internal door, bend copper piping, or prepare and paint a wall. And, because a good standard of English and maths is so important when working in the construction industry, you'll get the chance to improve these skills as part of your course. Also, if you earn less than £30,000 per year and aged 19 or over, you could study this course for FREE!
Entry Requirements: To access this course you are required to: Have three or more GCSEs at grade 1 or above* Attend an interview with a member of the college's admissions team Complete a short online assessment to determine your current skills and knowledge You will also be expected to commit to good attendance and punctuality and demonstrate a commitment and good attitude to learning and achieving the qualification. *Adults without the necessary qualifications but with relevant work/life experience will be considered on an individual basis.
What will I learn? During this course you can study the following modules: Introducing brickwork skills Introducing site carpentry skills Introducing cabinet making skills Introducing finishing skills (for plastering) Introducing paint finishing skills
What skills will I gain? During this course you will: Gain an understanding of the role of different trades in the construction industry Develop basic skills in brickwork, site carpentry, painting and decorating, plastering and plumbing Learn about different tools used for different tasks Develop your knowledge of health and safety and safe working practices
How will I be assessed? This is an assessment-based course and there are no exams. You will be continually assessed by tutors throughout the programme to ensure that you are understanding the taught elements and whether you require extra help in a particular area.
What can I do next? The skills you will learn from this course will enable you to: Progress onto Level 1 course in painting and decorating, carpentry and joinery, and bricklaying Gain an appretniceship in the construction industry
